Planning is the key. If possible use “land use planning” to promote historic preservation. Limitations with land use planning include political influences and a skeptical citizenry.
History is a major part of tourism and tourism is a major part of West Virginia’s economy. Preserving history is a key.
Sometimes economic development is more important than preservation, and when this is the case it is important to document that history.
Festivals are a major part of preservation and many communities in West Virginia are known for their fairs/festivals.
Examples of Fairs/Festivals are:
West Virginia State Folk Festival
Italian Heritage Festival
Frontier Days
Apple Butter Festival
